Houston Press Best Wall Art 2012

Fruits of the Fifth Ward Mural is recognized as the Best Wall Art of 2012 by the Houston Press. (September 24th, Volume 24)

During the summer of 2006, I volunteered as an administrative/graphic intern for the Museum of Cultural Arts Houston (MOCAH) located in Downtown Houston. As a team with Wheatley High students and the MOCAH staff, we pieced together the Fruits of the Fifth Ward Mural that was sponsored by the History Channel. Later, the mural project was selected as Best Wall Art in 2012. Below is a Best of Houston cover page by The Houston Press which shows the final completed mural located at the Fifth Ward with photos of the design and production.

The Fruits of the Fifth Ward depicts portraits of 21 people who lived in and had an impact on the community. Mural portraits include Senator Barbara Jordan and Representative Mickey Leland, boxer George Foreman and blues musician Lightnin’ Hopkins.
